What can I say about Jared’s stoke factor? Simply put, it’s full tilt and genuine. You’ve got an ally at your elbow in and out of the water. There is such authentic interest on his side to see you excel and develop your technique so you can be the best “you” on your board. For your own benefit and nothing else. If you’re open and humble, you’ll grow more in a week here than in a year on your own.
Puerto Rico has a lot to give. The locals are amazingly friendly out in the water. They give you waves and shout encouragement to you in the wave face. It’s so radically different from the possessiveness of Southern California. I couldn’t tell if they were happier that I was there, or if I was. A smattering of waves of all varieties are on tap within minutes from the flat.
A less openly advertised factoid is that Jared’s wife is also a world pro bodyboarder and famous in Puerto Rico. During the camps, you are quite literally surrounded by greatness. I came with a bag and a few boards and left with a great deal more. I left with an upgraded tool belt and new friends.
